Frequently Asked Questions
How will this campaign impact our weekly offertory at our Parish?
Parishioners are encouraged to sustain their regular offertory contributions
throughout the pledge redemption cycle and, historically, parish offertories
are not substantially impacted in a negative way. In fact, it is possible
that the offertory may increase as a result of a successful capital
campaign as parishioners become more aware of the Church’s financial
priorities.
How do I know that my donation to this campaign will go towards the
components outlined in the case for support?
Our Lady of Perpetual Help is going to great lengths to ensure that
the funds raised for Our Steps to the Future: Our First
Step will be used exclusively for the components outlined
in the campaign case for support. A leadership committee will be assembled
to ensure the distribution of funds to the case components of the campaign.
Why do you think our family can give a gift at this level?
No intrusive research of your financial wherewithal was conducted, and
request amounts are based primarily upon your past generosity and also
the financial needs of the Parish. You are simply being asked to consider
a gift at a specific level and it is our hope that you give this request
some thought and prayer.
Our family’s financial situation doesn’t allow us
to consider a pledge at the level requested. What should we do?
We really do not know much about your family’s financial situation,
but we encourage you to consider a pledge to this campaign that best
complements your propensity for sacrificial giving.
Gifts to this campaign ought to be equal in sacrifice, not necessarily
equal in dollar amount and it is our hope that your giving reflects
this measure. Perhaps it is more appropriate for your family to consider
a gift on another level. We recognize that your financial situation
is unique, and, ultimately, your thoughtful decision will be most appropriate.
This campaign is monumental in our Church’s history, and we hope
your commitment will mirror that.
Why am I asked to sign a pledge card?
Parishioners are asked to sign commitment cards so that the gift may
be appropriately acknowledged and documented, enabling the parish to
send payment reminders. Pledges are not legally binding.
Why is the initial payment of 10% of the total pledge encouraged?
Our Lady of Perpetual Help has immediate financial needs, and initial
payments help increase the amount of money we are able to redeem. Most
donors prefer to commence pledge payments immediately, many contributing
significantly more than the suggested 10% down payment. Donors may also
elect to pay less than 10% when making a down payment, or nothing at
all.
I’m sending money for the Campaign in the
white envelope and I have not signed a Pledge Card; do I still have
to sign a Pledge Card?
YES. If you are already sending your contributions to the campaign
using the capital campaign envelope, we thank you for your support response.
However, to properly acknowledge your generous giving and to allow the
parish finance committee to adequately plan the construction of the
new church during the course of the following years, we ask you to sign
a pledge card. To make a pledge, contact our office at (661) 288-0255.
Can I pay a portion or my entire pledge with stock?
Yes. Stock transfer forms are provided to donors who request them. Our
Lady of Perpetual Help will sell a gift of stock immediately. The value
of the gift is determined at the time of transfer.
To whom should initial payments be made?
All payments should be made payable to: OUR FIRST STEP.
How should subsequent payments be made?
Donors may choose to pay pledge balances monthly, quarterly, semi-annually
or annually. Reminders will be sent according to the pledge redemption
schedule the donor specifies.
How do I send my payments?
If you are currently receiving offertory envelopes from Our Lady of
Perpetual Church, a special envelope labeled “Capital Campaign-
OUR STEPS TO THE FUTURE: Our First Step (A)”
will arrive with your regular envelopes near the end of the active part
our capital campaign. In the interim time, a temporary campaign envelope
will be sent to your home.
If you currently are not receiving envelopes, we will add you to our
list when you sign your pledge letter. When you receive your envelopes
please use the envelope labeled “Capital Campaign –
OUR STEPS TO THE FUTURE: Our First Step (A)”
to make your pledge payments.
For accounting purposes and to ensure that your pledge payments are
appropriately acknowledged and receipted, donors are encouraged to make
pledge payments in the designated capital campaign envelope.
Are gifts to this campaign tax deductible?
Yes. As a 501(c)3 Organization, gifts to Our Steps to the Future:
Our First Step (A) are tax
deductible, to the fullest extent allowed by law. Contact your tax advisor
for more information.
When will construction begin?
Construction is projected to begin in approximately two years after
the conclusion of our capital campaign Our Steps to the Future:
Our First Step (A).
When will the new Church be built?
Construction on the new church will begin in approximately two years
after the conclusion of our capital campaign Our Steps to the
Future: Our First Step (B).
Can the Church be built sooner?
Without a doubt, there is a great need to have this project completed
as soon as possible; however, to begin construction of the new Church
building sooner would require raising the combined total of Our
First Step (A) and Our First Step (B)
($14 million) through the extraordinary effort of just one campaign.
What happens to the money that we raise over our goal?
Since the combined total of Our First Step (A)
and Our First Step (B) is $14 million, any
additional money raised over our goal in Our First Step
(A) is less money that we will need to raise in Our
First Step (B).
